Hormonal + Mental Health

Each initial 60min consultation with me includes a full clinical assessment and food as medicine. Pathology and further functional testing (discussed in the drop down menu) are requested only as necessary. Nutritional treatments are first line interventions for:

  • Mental and physical wellbeing in ADHD

  • Mental and physical wellbeing in Depression and Anxiety

  • Management of cognitive, mood and physical changes associated with PMDD, perimenopause and menopause.

A key indicator for a number of clients is the quality and quantity of their sleep, levels of stress, ability to manage their daily lives or burnout and fatigue.

  • A comprehensive medical and dietary history.

  • The primary goal of clinical nutrition is to re-establish the right baseline nutrients and minerals for your body to make what it needs to feel well.

In many cases, food as medicine lowers inflammation and can improve energy, cognition, mood and sleep. Improving these symptoms can also support other therapeutic interventions such as psychology or the ability to exercise, so that dietary insufficiencies are not hampering progress.

  • At this appointment baseline blood tests are requested. It’s important to establish what is happening for you. In addition to your symptoms, changes to blood values are a key indicator of treatment success over time.

  • Based on urine samples taken across the day rather than a single sample as per regular blood tests.

Measures include free and metabolised cortisol, indicating clearance rates and cortisol release pattern. Likewise with sex hormones, measuring estrogen and androgen metabolites gives a fuller picture for more precise clinical diagnosis of hormonal imbalances. Further detail on the Dutch Test is available here.

  • This test requires small blood spot samples.

Tests for genetic variations (SNP’s) that are known to have a significant effect on health and susceptibility to chronic diseases. Understanding individual susceptibility helps to establish the optimal nutrition necessary for good health, energy, longevity and risk mitigation. DNA Health tests for 32 genes SNPs involved in the following biological processes:

    • Methylation

    • Inflammation

    • Oxidative Stress

    • Lipid/Cholesterol metabolism

    • Bone health

    • Insulin sensitivity

    • Food/Nutrient responses

DNA tests provide a deeper personalised understanding on the relationship between your genes and how nutrition and lifestyle changes can improve health outcomes.

Metabolic Balance

Metabolic Balance is a weight management program (suited to either gain or loss). It’s backed by robust nutrition science and is designed to support individuals who struggle with their weight, in particular metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, cardiovascular disease, insomnia/sleep apnoea or peri-menopause/menopause.

  • A comprehensive medical and dietary history is established so we can determine your suitability for the MB program.

  • MB balance is personalised to your blood pathology and clinical history. 23 specific blood markers are required for plan.

Each initial 60min consultation with me includes a full clinical assessment and we begin dietary planning. Pathology and further functional testing (discussed in the drop down menu) are requested only as necessary.

  • A comprehensive medical and dietary history.

  • Key to supporting a healthy microbiome is the food we put into our mouths. Have a clear understanding of what digestive inputs are required, safely trialling specific food groups can be necessary to restore your gut to normal health and function.

Gut health is intricately linked to brain health. Our gut makes a range of molecules from serotonin and GABA to specific acids and vitamins required not only for the cells of our gut to be healthy, but prevent excessive inflammation. Inflammatory molecules made in our intestinal environment can pass through the blood brain barrier also causing neuronal inflammation.

The only way for our body to get essential nutrients, minerals and proteins necessary for every bodily function is through metabolising what we eat. Digestive health is the foundation of how we experience health and wellness in our everyday lives.

  • At this appointment baseline blood tests are requested. It’s important to establish what is happening for you. Simple blood measures indicate whether you are absorbing specific nutrients. Many nutrients, mineral and electrolytes influence how blood cells are produces, turnover and excreted.

In addition to your symptoms, changes to blood values are a key indicator of treatment success over time. It’s a little like a report card for our physiology.

  • A Microba test sequences the DNA of the bacteria in your gut. Bacteria produce different molecules that can impact your overall health.

Gut bacteria break down fibre managing gas, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea. They are involved in the gut immune system and help fight inflammation. Bacteria can also impact appetite and how well you manage glucose.

Once we have the results, practical dietary changes can be targeted to improve digestion, reduce unwanted gut symptoms and provide dietary inputs to support gut bacteria associated with health.

Gut Health

Maybe you were diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome or FODMAP Intolerance. These labels aren’t cures. Learn what to eat, what to cut out and how to re-introduce foods.

Working together we can increase your confidence in food choices, relieve constipation, diarrhoea or bloating to feel comfortable again. Your symptoms are real, but a diagnosis is just the starting point.

I’ve also worked with individuals suffering from an Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Addressing insufficiencies due to malabsorption and improving your diet while also reducing symptoms is essential to managing the condition. Although pharmacological treatments can bring about remission, you can still experience digestive improvements.
